Featherdale Wildlife Park

April 7, 2012

I’ve never been to Featherdale but it’s a great place to get up close to Australian wildlife. You can pet kangaroos and koalas, and the animals are little wallabies running all over the farm that you can play with as well. I went there with a couple of friends of mine recently, some who have never seen Australian wildlife up close before, so it was a great experience.

P.s. Emus look so evil and aggressive in person, and they have a voice to match. I wouldn’t want to get into a fight with one

Introducing my new car

March 19, 2012

Things have been awesome for me. It’s all been up and up. 1 year ago I couldn’t have ever dreamed I would have been where I am today. Thank you to everyone who has supported me so far, and I promise I’ll keep working hard to make you all proud.

After all this hard work, I’ve decided to reward myself with a little present. I got a new car recently. Check it out.

I’m just kidding. This past year there’s been a lot of ups and downs, and I’m definitely proud of what I have accomplished. While it is true that I’ve achieved more than I could have hoped for even just a year ago, the hardships still remind me that there’s a long way to go. I feel blessed to be able to say that I get paid to be a visual story teller, and I thank all those who have given me the privilege of sharing theirs.

Away to Osaka

February 17, 2012

I’ve been in Osaka the past few weeks, so I haven’t had much time to update the blog, but I will be coming back soon with new work. For now, here’s something for the tech nerds out there like me.

I got to play with both the D4 and the 1Dx today. They both look amazing and produce great photos from what I can tell, but this is all from the little screens on the back of both cameras, so take that how you want.

From what I saw, however, it seemed like the 1dx performed significantly better at ISOs higher than 12,800. That might have something to do with the fact that the natural ISO range on the D4 only goes up to 12,800 and everything else is H1, H2, etc.

Merry Christmas

December 25, 2011

I just finished my last job for the year! It’s been a busy and stressful year, but I’ve had so much fun and it’s all been worth it. There’s a few more days before I need to think about New Years resolutions, but there’s always time to reflect and learn from what we have already done.

Being a photographer certainly involves a lot of hard work, and there has been a lot said by everyone on the matter. However, it’s so easy to get caught up in the business side of photography that you stop taking any personal photos.

While I feel blessed to be able to spend time with my clients and document their celebrations, it’s always nice to be able to pick up the camera and shoot without any deadlines or agendas or any pressure.

2012 is looking like it’s going to be a busy year so before I get stuck into it, it would be great to be able to look forward and leave some time to shoot for the pure love of photography itself.

Merry Christmas!

Late Nights

November 3, 2011

The past few weeks have been a whirl of late nights and hectic weekends. I’m working on the backlog that has built up so some of that work will make its way onto here very soon.

In other news, it’s been years since I’ve had a Starbucks. It turns out their green tea latte is better than their straight coffee.Starbucks

Australia Day

January 28, 2011

It was SO hot on Australia Day but it was good to see everyone out celebrating. It seemed like there was a bit of a military theme in the city this year with lots of vintage military cars on display and a couple of fighter jets doing fly overs during the day.

Stories

January 16, 2011

I love it when photos convey some kind of a story. Candid photography is really great for bringing that out so I love it when I can capture a shared joke or group hugs.

But sometimes it’s even simpler than that. I was looking through some of my old photos the other day and I came across this photo. There’s not a lot happening in the photo but looking at it reminded me of playing with Ly. When she spent the summer in Sydney we would go out into the backyard and let her be awed by the birds patiently sitting on their perch waiting to get fed by us.

We tried to get Ly to feed them once but we had to take it away from her right away because she started eating it. We should have told her the stale bread was for the birds, not for her.

In retrospect

September 8, 2009

As the storage space I need constantly grows I’ve been cleaning out my archives and it’s interesting how different some of my selections from photo shoots would be if I did them today. Here’s a few that didn’t make the first cut
