Sydney Portraits | Just Because

October 21, 2009

Sometimes you just have to try something different. For this shoot we were a bit behind schedule so there was a bit of improvising going on. She wasn’t exactly sure what she wanted but she had the vague idea of shooting in an alley or some urban setting but since it was getting dark and we were in a park…

Once we started shooting however the park suddenly seemed like a good idea. Sometimes you have to go with the flow

Sydney Portraits | Say that again punk

September 25, 2009

The other day we had some spare time so we decided to play around with the camera. Gotta love Ray Bans.

By the way, if you look very closely you’ll see the cool ‘gangsta’ model sporting the 2009 season St. Johns First Aid Service belt. It’s mine i believe.

In retrospect

September 8, 2009

As the storage space I need constantly grows I’ve been cleaning out my archives and it’s interesting how different some of my selections from photo shoots would be if I did them today. Here’s a few that didn’t make the first cut

A quick visit to Wollongong

May 23, 2009

Well, not really. We only stayed at Wollongong for about 2 hours but the trip each way was about an hour and a half so it took pretty much most of the day. We did manage to get some pretty good photos while we were there though.

Ly and Mai

March 4, 2009

Their whole family is moving down to Melbourne soon because of the new job (nice to see that the economic crisis isn’t affecting everyone) so they asked for some photos of their now extended family before they leave. Mai is now about 2 months old and she still sleeps quite a lot.

While I was waiting for Mai to wake up I took a few photos of Ly. She eats a lot now. She ate about 6 cherries and a whole banana. That’s a lot for a 1 year and 3 month old little girl isn’t it?

When Mai was ready we went into the garden for a little shoot in the awesome afternoon light

It’s funny watching Ly play with her little sister. She keeps going for Mai’s eyes. We’re not sure why but I think it might be an early case of sibling rivalry

What? I didn’t do anything

Lighting Test

January 22, 2009

I have to say, optical triggers are rediculously unreliable. I was experimenting with some lighting today which was pretty fun. The problem was, so were the people I was sharing the space with. Even worse, they were also on optical triggers. So instead of trying out weird and crazy lighting styles, I spent all my time trying to stop my flashes from being triggered by others. But I got some pretty decent shots out so it’s not all bad.

I had a flash behind the model to get some definition on the hat. Darn those misfires

It fired for this one though

Ly’s Birthday

November 5, 2008

Ly is so energetic and curious. She runs all over the place, she fiddles with everything including the volume dial (my ears are still recovering) and she only turned one the other day.  I got to shoot a bit of her birthday and it was a lot of fun.

Ly is really smart. She already understands what you are saying when you talk to her, although she can’t speak yet. She’s also learned how to give people kisses. She thought about this one for a while but decided not to

My favourite part is when Ly got her presents though. She got a pram for her birthday and she was so excited she would not stop looking at it (and pressing every single button on it) for half an hour
